Has anybody ever just quit going to their doctors? I'm at the point where I just want to forget about all of this and just go on with my life. I'm sick to death of seeing doctors and being refered and that doctor finding something else wrong...it seems like I'm always going to the doctor. UGH.
The NL wanted me to have a MRI of my shoulder because I can't lift my right arm very high so I did. Then they refered me to an orthopedic doctor because they "found something". I went this morning and I have degenerative arthritis and something wrong with my rotator cuff. I could choose to have injections/exercise/surgery. I told them the pain in my shoulder is so minimal compared to the pain in my head that I would take their consult under advisement and thank you, goodbye.
I went to see the ENT about the choking and breathing problems and he said that I had a paralysed vocal cord. I went to see the speech pathologist and what! There is no paralyzed vocal cord, they both work just fine. So I'm back to the brain stem theroy. What can they do for that?
I'm feeling pretty good today so I want to just go on with my life and forget about all this chiari crap. The NL also put me on Cymbalta and that has helped with the head pain/aches. I was planning on going to the WI Chiari Center but now I'm thinking I'll skip it. I've already had the decompression surgery so what's left to do?
How do you take a vacation from chiari?
LOL, well, I'm a mess! Thanks for reading my rant, Terri
I am so sorry that you are not finding the answers you need. Our biggest problem is that each doctor treats something different but never looks at the root cause (Chiari) or our bodies as a whole. Every aspect r problem with our bodies work together and effect other parts of our body. I have had trouble with my shoulders, arms, and hands for years! I have under gone two extensive surgeries on my left arm and one on my right. Yes the surgeries helped, but when operating they described it to my husband as "the nerves are a mess in there!" That tells me all of this is caused by Chiari and the pressure on the spine and brain stem. I don't know why doctors can't work together and communicate with each other. They just refer, refer, refer because they don't know what to do with us. We need awareness and research. The entire medical field needs to be better educated about Chiari and related disorders. It does NOT just effect our brains and spine. It effects our entire bodies. I think once doctors acknowledge that things may get better. Everyone needs to take a break from all of this! I, too, am just trying to manage symptoms and just see mu doctors for my prescriptions. Keep in touch, I understand :( Carla
I know it is frustrating, I have the opposite problem. The doctors blame everything on the Chiari. Last year for about a week my joints hurt so bad I could barely use my hands and a few days later I couldnt walk without assistance. I went to the ER and they took me to get MRI's and were blaming it on the Chiari. After I was all better I found out there were alot of people around me that were coming down with Fifth Diease. I had all the symtoms but was never diagonsised with it because they were convinced it was the Chiari. Very frustrating. I take a vacation from my Chiari but have a few glasses of wine every Friday after work, lol!
Ugh, I feel the same way currently... Getting passed from doctor to doctor, all with their own opinions and biases, creating as much chaos as just having Chiari does! It's frustrating - I hope you are able to find answers soon!
I was at our local balance/dizziness clinic 2 days ago and they did a bunch of tests which will find problems but no explanation, as all my other tests have done. They clearly find problems but they are certain the mess at my cerebellar vertebral junction is not the cause...getting very tired of it and am feeling the same way as you, why bother going, it doesn't help anyway.
