Dealing With Chiari Without Surgery

With the comments about loss of range of motion in the neck, it really scares me as that has always been my primary problem. In fact, when I was born, they diagnosed my problem as congenital torticollis and now are pretty sure it was related to the chiari.

I have had Chiari since I was born but the drs didn't diagnosis me with it till I was in my 20s I'm in my 30s now. I have not had the surgery done. I make it day to day with my meds, exercise, knowing my limits, and eating healthy. I feel as long as I can control it with what I am doing there is no need for surgery, but if it was to get worse I would have it done. I help that kinda helps.

I was born with torticollis as well. Mom said my dad had to help with my neck exercises because she was too scared of breaking my neck! I wonder if there is a correlation to chiari?

That's exactly what my mom said as well....she made my dad come home from work to do the PT because she was afraid and I screamed so bad! The doctors said there wasn't a study about the relation so far, but they felt it was related. I also was diagnosed with early onset severe osteoporosis...there is an old study about kids with chiari and rickets, and I think there's a link to that too. I still have a Vitamin D deficiency...even after taking a prescription dose.
