Does anyone know if there has been any studies or articles relating the back to sleep campaign to an increase in the prevalence of chiari. I saw a cute baby tonight and she had the all to normal flat head with a slight bald spot where she sleeps. Made me wonder. I know they have shown that kids heads are taking on a strange shape but wondered about how it impacts if at all. I can’t imagine it helps. Or do you sleep only on your back? I am an avid stomach sleeper so I guess that takes me out. But for the parents or strictly back sleepers - do you or your child have the fat head? I must have to much time on my hands.
Beeba,
It's not good for a baby to get a flat head. I was told to vary the postions that they slept in. When ever I see that I think that the child has spent too much time laying down. My husband used one of those packs to carry ours around with quite a bit so they were upright and engaged. I don't think it happens to adults because our bones are too hard. I sleep on my side and can't imagine either sleeping on my back or stomach. LOL I had to laugh that you asked about a "fat head" instead of a flat head. I have definitely been told I have a fat head sometimes and so do my teenage kids. Ha!
